Dr. Carl Winter, Specialist in Cooperative Extension and Vice Chair of this Department, is retiring from UC Davis at the end of June, 2019 after 28 years with the UC Davis Department of Food Science and Technology, and 32 years with the University of California. 

Professor Maria Marco was invited by the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) organizing committee to give a speech at ASM Microbe 2019 on "Use of Lactobacillus to offset the effects of obesogenic diets".  Her talk was presented on June 23, 2019 to a packed room of over 120 people.

Glen Patrick Fox, a senior research fellow at Australia’s University of Queensland, will become UC Davis’ new Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor of Malting and Brewing Science on July 1. Fox succeeds Charlie Bamforth, who held the position from 1999 until his retirement last year.
