Student standing:
Second year M.Sc. candidate
Degree/Focus/interest areas:
Viticulture and Enology. My focus is on precision viticulture, GIS and phenotyping genetic mapping populations
Where are you from originally?
Sant Martí Sarroca, Barcelona, Spain
What brought you to UC Davis?
I was offered the opportunity to come to UC Davis to work on my bachelor's degree thesis. After working in the viticulture side of the wine industry, I realized that I wanted to have a better, well-rounded education and expand upon my background in agronomy. I then decided to pursue a MSc degree in both disciplines, Viticulture and Enology.
What do you enjoy the most about studying in this program?
The people who I work with daily: my classmates, friends in DEVO (the student organization), and professors, have been very supportive and have helped me grow both professionally and personally.
Have you interned at a winery/vineyard management company? If so, tell us about your experience.
I have not interned since I joined the program, but I have been involved in the vineyard management of a research block with my lab. Before joining the program, I worked as a viticultural technician for a sparkling wine producer in Spain.
What are your plans after you graduate?
I will begin an internship doing GIS research at E&J Gallo.
How has the pandemic affected you as a student?
I started my master’s program in Spain as I couldn’t travel to the U.S. due to the pandemic. It was weird to have classes at midnight, but I was able to move to Davis in Winter 2021. It was a different experience than expected when I applied to the program, but I think that both students and professors worked really hard to make it work.
What is one unique thing about you?
I love crafting. I love trying to make new designs for polymer clay earrings.
