You are invited to a fun, free, family-friendly event! The Phaff Yeast Culture Collection (Food Science and Technology) and the Wine Yeast and Bacteria Collection (Viticulture and Enology) are participating in the sixth annual UC Davis Biodiversity Museums Day on Saturday, February 18, 2017. This event will feature open houses, exhibits and activities by twelve different campus biological collections and centers. Parking is free, admission is free. There will be a food truck on site.
The yeast exhibits will be open 9:00 to 1:00 PM, in the Earth and Physical Sciences building. This is a multi-sensory experience! Come taste Vegemite and Marmite (made from yeast extract), smell different species of yeast, see yeasts and bacteria under the microscope, feel how hard bread would be without yeast, and hear corny yeast jokes. Learn about the history of the two microbe collections, and how they are being used in cutting-edge research.
The attached map and schedule lists the exhibit hours of all 12 participating collections, which include:
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology, Bogart Museum of Entomology, Raptor Center, Paleontology Collection, Arboretum, Phaff Yeast Culture Collection, and Viticulture and Enology Culture Collection.
