Revised Postdoctoral Scholar Salary Scale
The following scale must be applied to all new initial appointments of Postdoctoral Scholars February 1, 2016 or later. If the appointment notification letter was approved using the prior minimum, please ensure that all new/renewed appointments effective on or after February 1, 2016, are appointed using the new salary minima.
The effective date of the new rate is the first day of the payroll period following the NIH announcement, or February 1, 2016, except for Postdoctoral Scholars appointed to the Kirschstein Fellowships. For Kirschstein Fellowships, the new minimum applies to all awards made on or after October 1, 2015; in other words, the new rate should be backdated to October 1, 2015.
On January 20, 2016, the NIH announced its new fiscal year 2016 NRSA (National Research Service Award) stipend levels for Postdoctoral Scholars. Pursuant to the Postdoctoral Scholars' MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between the University of California and the UAW union, Article 4, Compensation, the enclosed University's salary scale for Postdoctoral Scholar salary/stipend minimum rates has been increased in accordance with the NIH announcement pertaining to NRSA stipend levels. The new rates will apply when a Postdoctoral Scholar is newly appointed, reappointed, or on the anniversary date for those Postdoctoral Scholars with multiple year appointments. Individual Postdoctoral salary/stipend increases shall occur in accordance with the provisions in the Postdoctoral Scholars' MOU, Article 4. The new Postdoctoral Scholar scale will be available online under the Salary Scale Revision section at http://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/salary-scale-revisions.html by the end of next week.

Postdoctoral Scholars reappointed effective February 1 and after, who are above scale shall receive at least a 2% salary increase in accordance with Article 4, Section C.2.b.
