FST and VMTRC are hiring for a postdoc position focusing on Bovine Mastitis Pathogens Genetic Analysis, Diagnostic Test Design and Evaluation. 

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to develop and apply molecular detection methods for bacterial mastitis pathogens impacting dairy cattle. This position is within a multi-disciplinary project led by Professor Maria Marco at the Department of Food Science & Technology and Dr. Sharif Aly at the Veterinary Medicine Teaching and Research Center, University of California, Davis, USA. Specifically, the genomes of Mycoplasma bovis and other mastitis-related bacterial pathogens will be investigated to develop real-time PCR assays that will be validated and applied to study the epidemiology and control of mastitis in dairy herds. 

Qualified individuals should have a strong background in microbiology and molecular biology, preferably with expertise in bioinformatics and DNA-sequence based bacterial identification methods. Knowledge of milking systems and control of mastitis on dairy herds is preferred. The successful candidate should have a PhD degree, show a demonstrated record in scientific publication, and be proficient in written and oral English. Excellent communication skills are required because the project will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team of microbiologists, veterinarians, farm owners and staff. The position is available immediately for one year with the possibility of extension contingent on performance.
