The following scale (see PDF below) must be applied to all new initial appointments of Postdoctoral Scholars March 1, 2014 or later. If the appointment notification letter was approved using the prior minimum, please ensure that all new appointments effective on or after March 1, 2014, are appointed using the new salary minima. No adjustment of salary for existing postdoctoral scholars hired prior to 3/1/14 is necessary at this time, increases for this population would occur upon renewal or anniversary date. 

The NIH announced the new salary minimum scale (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-12-033.html). Article 4, Compensation, of the Postdoctoral Scholar agreement states "the effective date of the change is the first day of the pay period following the announcement, except for Postdoctoral Scholars appointed to the Kirschstein fellowships, for whom the effective date is the date established in the NIH notice." The new scale is effective March 1, 2014. 

The scale must be applied to all new initial appointments for Postdoctoral Scholars hired March 1 or later. The scale applies to Postdoctoral Scholars as they are reappointed effective March 1. Postdoctoral Scholars reappointed effective March 1 and after who are above scale shall receive at least a 2% salary increase in accordance with Article 4, Section C.2.b. 

There will be an official change to the Academic Personnel Salary Scale (Table 23) to reflect the new scales. See attached PDF.
